Video recording and multi-channel music mix of the performance in the Erofili theater.
Abstract
Live performance of music for an audience is always at the heart of the art and
creation of music. The concept of the “live concert” has had many evolving stages
through the years and it may take various forms. It may target a small or large
audience, it can take place in a closed or open space, it can be purely acoustic, or
include the use of a public address system, etc.
The “live concert” of course was inevitably influenced by the technology of moving
picture, consequently video. The filming of concerts was a natural evolution from the
moment it became technically possible. However, for the successful transference
and accurate representation of a concert in the form of moving picture and sound,
many technical and artistic parameters must be taken into account.
In the context of this work, a video recording of a live concert of about 2 hours in
length, at Erofili open theater in Forteza Rethymnon, was carried out using three
cameras, followed by mixing of the live multichannel audio recording and further
processing of the material. The concert consisted of a plethora of instruments and
voices. The objective was to present the concert in a complete picture and sound
format.
The video filming was also carried out with the aid of DSLR photographic cameras, a
technology with is analyzed thoroughly within this essay.
