Ανάλυση έμμεσα αναδυόμενων χώρων συνάφειας αξιοποιώντας ψηφιακά ίχνη: Διερεύνηση των ορίων τους και της συνοχής στις συνομιλίες των χρηστών τους.

Abstract

Η ανάλυση του τεράστιου όγκου δεδομένων που ανταλλάσσεται καθημερινώς σε Blogs, Portals, Forums και κοινωνικούς ιστότοπους θα ήταν δύσκολη υπόθεση εάν δεν υπήρχε η έννοια του ίχνους των χρηστών και νέες τεχνικές ανάκτησης και ανάλυσής του. Βέβαια και αυτά με την σειρά τους δεν είναι τίποτα άλλο από ηλεκτρονικά δεδομένα που απλώς ονομάστηκαν έτσι. Μπορούν όμως να μετατραπούν σε ουσιώδη πληροφορία που να αναδεικνύει τάσεις, απόψεις, αντιλήψεις, τον τρόπο που αναπτύσσονται νέες πρακτικές και εξελίσσεται η γνώση, αν συνδυαστεί με άλλα ηλεκτρονικά δεδομένα και τεχνικές ανάλυσης και οπτικοποίησης. Ακολουθώντας την ήδη υπάρχουσα μεθοδολογία στην βιβλιογραφία, γίνεται προσπάθεια ανάδειξης νέων στοιχείων που μπορεί να συμβάλουν στην καλλίτερη διερεύνηση του τομέα. Ερευνώντας το YouTube καταλήγουμε σε ουσιώδη συμπεράσματα που ενισχύουν και επεκτείνουν την βιβλιογραφία σε τομείς που ερευνούν τις εικονικές κοινότητες, χώρους συνάφειας και γενικότερα τις αλληλεπιδράσεις και την επικοινωνία μέσω υπολογιστή.

The vast amount of user-generated contents retained in blogs, portals, forums and social web sites have made compelling the need for methods and techniques to facilitate efficient retrieval, processing and making of sense of digital trace data. Even if digital traces are nothing but electronic data given that specific name, they can be transformed into meaningful information by revealing trends, opinions, patterns and an evolving digital culture that progressively catalyzes the ways in which knowledge is constructed, negotiated and transformed. All these can be achieved by combining digital trace data with analytic techniques such as knowledge visualization. Drawing upon recent research and the state of the art in related literatures, this thesis seeks to review the state of the art and highlight the value of transforming digital trace data to new knowledge by exploiting various genres of technology. The emphasis is primarily on social networking services, public APIs and advanced visualization toolkits which form the instruments for building analytical insights into pools of digital trace data. By focusing on a specific case, namely YouTube, the baseline of a new method for excavating virtual settlements is described and by this account it is possible to reach conclusions on a number of related themes such as virtual communities, affinity spaces and online discourse.
