Abstract

Η αναβάθμιση της Ελληνικής κεφαλαιαγοράς και η μετάταξη της από τις αναπτυσσόμενες στις ανεπτυγμένες αγορές, που πραγματοποιήθηκε τον Μάιο του 2001. Η ριζική αναβάθμιση της παρακολούθησης της συμπεριφοράς των εταιριών των οποίων οι τίτλοι είναι εισηγμένοι στο χρηματιστήριο. Η εφαρμογή του κανονισμού συμπεριφοράς των εισηγμένων εταιρειών σημείωσε επιτυχία διότι επέφερε σημαντική βελτίωση τόσο των εταιρικών εξελίξεων όσο των συναλλαγών από μεγάλους μετόχους. Η δημοσίευση ομοιόμορφων ετησίων δελτίων από όλες τις εισηγμένες εταιρίες και η συμπερίληψη σε αυτά των πινάκων ταμειακών ροών που συντάχθηκαν με βάση τα διεθνή λογιστικά πρότυπα. Νέες θεσμικές ρυθμίσεις για τη θέσπιση κανόνων που διέπουν στις αγορές μετοχών επί πιστώσει και για τη ρύθμιση της λειτουργίας ειδικών διαπραγματεύσεων της αγοράς. Μία Τρίτη και θεμελιώδους σημασίας ρύθμιση θεσπίστηκε το 2001 και θα λειτουργήσει το 2002:πρόκειται για τη πιστοποίηση στελεχών που ασκούν καθήκοντα διαβιβαστών και εκτελεστών εντολών, διαχειριστών κεφαλαίων, συμβούλων επενδύσεων, και αναλυτών. Η εφαρμογή της ενεργού εποπτείας, προληπτικής και κατασταλτικής, στην Ελληνική χρηματιστηριακή αγορά γνώρισε υψηλότερο επίπεδο επιδόσεων από τα στελέχη της εποπτικής αρχής.

The Hellenic Republic Capital Market Commission (or Greek Capital Market Commission) is one of three regulatory bodies for the financial industry in Greece, the other being the Bank of Greece.It is the competent authority for supervising securities laws, including tender offers.Until 2000, there were no laws covering corporate governance in Greece. The HCMC set up the Committee on Corporate Governance in April 1999, which issued the Mertzanis Report in October 1999, entitled Principles on Corporate Governance in Greece: Recommendations for its Competitive Transformation. This functioned as a voluntary code. In November 2000 the HCMC issued the mandatory Code of Conduct for Companies Listed on the Athens Stock Exchange, which requires listed entities to establish an internal audit unit to monitor the company's audit process, reporting to the board of directors. Law No. 3016 of 2002 regulating corporate governance went into force on 20 June 2003, and allows the HCMC to impose sanctions for non-compliance, but the law has been criticized for lacking detail. The chairman of the commission from 1996 to 2004 was Stavros Thomadakis, who went on to become first chairman of the Public Interest Oversight Board in March 2005. As of June 2011 the chairman was Anastassios Gabrielides. The economy of Greece is the 46th largest in the world with a nominal gross domestic product (GDP) of $194.851 billion per annum. It is also the 54th largest in the world by purchasing power parity, at $288.245 billion per annum. As of 2015, Greece is the fifteenth-largest economy in the 28-member European Union.]Greece is ranked 38th and 45th in the world at $17,988 and $26,391 for nominal GDP per capita and purchasing power parity per capita respectively.Greece is classified as an advanced,high-income economy, and was a founding member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). The country joined what is now the European Union in 1981.In 2001 Greece adopted the euro as its currency, replacing the Greek drachma at an exchange rate of 340.75 drachmae per euro. Greece is a member of the International Monetary Fund and of the World Trade Organization, and ranked 34th on Ernst & Young's Globalization Index.
