This paper was written as an integral part of the studies at the Department of Business Administration of the Hellenic Mediterranean University of Crete. It’s purpose is to analyse the case of domestic microbreweries, as well as to offer a number of suggestions on how these small enterprises can contribute to the sustainable tourism’s general development, in regards to the island of Crete. In this paper, qualitative research was selected as a means of collecting data from various stakeholders of Crete (Department of trade and development, associations of microbreweries, emerging microbrewers, departments of tourism and Regions of Crete) in corelation to the study at hand. Our research determined that the main reason these enterprises are not in a developing state, is due to the fact that they are facing steady resistance from their competitors. More specifically, the catalytic factors that prevent their further development is the inability to promote the product and the lack of positive response from the locals, resulting in insufficient income. It is also of great importance to mention here, that wine as an alcoholic beverage, still remains the most popular drink of choice in the island of Crete. As a result, the microbreweries remain in a disadvantageous position, with a rather limited economic contribution and affect to both the tourism sector as well as the country of Greece.en
